The curiosity of history buffs and archaeologists has questioned the accuracy of paintings, sculptures, and a written description when it comes to the influential figures in the history books. This consistent questioning has made it possible for us to see the most accurate faces of these well-known people.
Here’s the real face covered of prominent personalities:
Cleopatra:
Known as Cleopatra VII Philopator, born in Alexandria, Cleopatra is known as the most beautiful woman in history. More than her beauty, she was known for political actions and strategies, Cleopatra has protected her kingdom from invasion by foreigners.
Many people know Cleopatra of Egypt to look like actress Elizabeth Taylor thanks to Hollywood’s rep retention with white skin in many paintings. Cleopatra was however tanner than represented due to the geographical location of her kingdom.
George Washington:
The first president of the United States, George Washington’s is recognizable to anyone who has seen a $1 bill. The founding father of the united state is also the father of the nation united states. He is mostly recognized and represented with this unfinished portrait.
With 3D modeling, the face of the first US president is reconstructed, and it is very similar but less intimidating. Washington bears somber expressions with eyes that are diligent as he was.
Julius Caesar:
Former Roman dictator Caesar, profound for his political reform and military tactics, is mostly captured in sculptures carved in the Roman empire. These sculptures were made after his victories and posthumously. Not much is described in the plays written by the writer or roman empire or even shakes pers.
Made in the 3D modeling technique, the face of Caesar is not something one would expect of the great leader of the Roman army. In the modern age, the representation of Caesar is much on the softer side. Inverted triangle face shape, show a bigger head, and smaller mouth of the army leader.
King Tut:
Tutankhamun or King Tut was the last reigning Pharaoh of the Egyptians empire. Since his burial place was discovered by the British archaeologist Howard Carter, in 1922, the Pharaoh has been a subject of interest due to the nature of death.
King Tut was assumed to have parents who were related, making King Tut a child born out of incest. This shows in his physical deformities. Born with multiple physical deformities, oddly shaped heads, bucked teeth, and disfigured limbs, King Tut died at the age of 19 years. Some suspicions are directed towards association and the rest indicate poor health.
William Shakespeare:
William Shakespeare is known all over the world for his famous works and tragedies as the greatest writer to be born ever. Recognized by the paintings, William Shakespeare is the least accurately represented on this list. The painting used to recognize the writer is made after the death of the writer.
The painter, John Taylor behind this pictorial representation of Shakespeare has created many portraits that look very much alike. This accounts for an inaccurate description of the writer, due to the artistic bias of the painter. Nevertheless, the recreation of 3D shows the writer fashioning the gray mustache and chin beard.
Jesus:
Jesus, when represented in painting, is mostly in his child form with mother mary. As noted before, paintings are not the most accurate or reliable source of information for any historical figure, especially some as historical as Christ himself.
Jesus of Nazareth has no accurate description of his features and looks, yet based on the geographical location and other details available, scientists and historians have designed the approximate facial reconstruction of Jesus. Jesus is well known to a man with darker skin despite the white man’s representation.
